The Fertilizer Myth
One of the most common misconceptions we hear is that dog waste is just like cow manure and acts as a natural fertilizer. This is completely false and can lead to a ruined lawn and a contaminated yard.
Diet Makes the Difference
The difference lies in the diet. Cows are herbivores. Their waste is primarily digested plant matter, which is why it makes good fertilizer. Dogs, however, are omnivores with a high-protein, meat-based diet. This makes their waste highly acidic and rich in nitrogen.
What Happens to Your Grass
While nitrogen is a key component in commercial fertilizers, the concentration in dog waste is far too high. Instead of feeding the grass, it burns it. This is why you'll often see brown or yellow spots with a dark green ring around them—the center is burned dead, while the diluted edges get just enough nitrogen to grow quickly.
The Hidden Dangers
Beyond lawn damage, dog waste is classified by the EPA as an environmental pollutant, in the same category as oil and toxic chemicals. It contains billions of fecal coliform bacteria and can harbor parasites that survive in the soil for years.
Protect Your Investment
Your lawn is an investment. Regular removal of dog waste is the only way to protect it. Our weekly service ensures the waste is removed before it can burn the grass or contaminate the soil.
